Best Movies on Netflix (May 2019) – List of Movies

Angels and Demons (2009)
Director – Ron Howard

Digest – This movie is a sequel to the 2006 release “The Da Vinci Code.” A “Preferitti” needs to be chosen among the four candidates locked in a room. Right before the voting, one of them gets murdered. Robert Langdon who is a symbologist in Harvard works with a nuclear scientist Vittoria Vetra to find clues in chasing the killer. Following the clues, they find out that the murderer is a member of Illuminati. This movie is an absolute watch to find the answer to whodunit and also be aware as it plays with your mind.

Dumb and Dumber (1994)
Director – Peter Farelly and Bobby Farelly

Digest – Harry and Lloyd are best friends who are actually stupid. If one is dumb then another one is dumber. The dumb duo travels to Aspen to return a briefcase to its rightful owner who they are unaware about. By the end of the journey, they got to know that the briefcase has lots of cash and right from there mayhem begins.

I was jumping in joy when I got to know that Netflix is going to release this movie in the month of May 2019. I always have been a fan of Jim Carrey’s comedy because he inevitably rocks in his every role. This movie is a treat to eyes and your health because they say a dose of regular laughing helps you live longer.

Scream (1999)
Director – Wes Craven

Digest – A killer who wears mask haunts and kills people of California. When a young girl named Sidney Prescott becomes the target of the killer, she tries to find an escape. Her world turns upside down when her boyfriend becomes the prime suspect.

Scream is one of the most loved horror movies of its time. The main reason this being so popular was the deadly horror approach never seen by anyone before. The plot of the movie is very interesting and intriguing as it is one of its kind to offer a serial killer theme. Frights do not always have to relate with the jump scares and horrifying sounds, sometimes it is more important to heed on characters.

The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Director – Ron Howard

Digest – I have already mentioned the sequel of this movie above which is “Angels & Demons.” So those who are interested in watching that movie should go with this one first in order to understand what the heck is going on. This movie tells the story of a professor who found himself summoned to The Louvre while being on a journey for his business trip.

A murder took place and clues are hidden in Da Vinci paintings to be collected as for solving the case. Tom Hanks is the star that shines and carries the entire movie on his shoulder. Many people do not like this movie and I totally understand your patience guys. You need to be smart and unbiased enough to like this category of movies.

The Sixth Sense (1999)
Director – M. Night Shyamalan

Digest – A child psychiatrist helps a boy who has a vision of dead people. As the bond between these two grow stronger, psychiatrist finds a shocking truth about the boy. M. Night Shyamalan is known for his best works in the field of horror and mystery genre. He played off very well here with “The Sixth Sense.”

This movie has an incredible narration which will keep you guessing till the end. The twist of this movie is considered as one of the most shocking and figured in the history of cinemas. As a result, I was dumbstruck by watching the ending of the movie and it took me a few minutes to understand and accept. OMG! This is the ending. It blew my mind and will do the same to you too.

Dunkirk (2017)
Director – Christopher Nolan

Digest – This movie depicts the story of Dunkirk evacuations of soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire and France from the German Army during World War II. Despite all negative reviews on IMDB, there are many people who love Dunkirk and think it as one of the best war movies ever made.

I fall into the latter category. I am a big fan of Christopher Nolan’s direction and this one came out as a surprise to me because it was not his field yet he mastered it. Nolan is known for making science fiction movies.

Bruce Almighty (2003)
Director – Tom Shadyc

Digest – Another movie from the king of comedy “Jim Carrey.” The plot of the movie is about a television reporter who always feels low in life and blames God for his misfortune. One day he curses God and God listens to him. So consequently, now he (Jim Carrey) is given almighty powers and challenged by God to run the world and bring change.

Jim Carrey in those days was a saviour for presenting movies like “Bruce Almighty” to the audience. It was, is and will always be fun to watch him in such roles. The one fun trivia about this movie is – Morgan Freeman who played the role of God in this movie is an atheist in real life.

Olympus Has Fallen (2013)
Director – Antoine Fuqua

Digest – When terrorists captured the president under White House, Mike Banning who is an agent of a Secret Service hired to rescue the President. Gerard Butler is an action hero and you will see him doing the same here in a more stylish way.

Olympus Has Fallen has everything the audience was waiting to see for so long. In terms of action, story and lots of shootouts, you have got them all in a logical and rightful manner. Do not miss this action-packed thrilling ride of rescuing President from the group of terrorists.

Zombieland (2009)
Director – Ruben Fleischer

Digest – A student in search of his family forces to travel across the land in America filled with Zombies. This is a horror comedy starring Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson in the lead roles. This is why the audience enjoys watching their survival from Zombie filled the land and how they escaped the land.

I can watch this on repeat. The movie really has some good laughs and action scenes. Being a horror comedy you may not find the jump scares as obvious. Although, this movie is a good watch for fun visuals and to shake yourself with laughter.

Zero (2018)
Director – Anand L Rai

Digest – Zero depicts the journey of a vertically challenged man (dwarf) who falls in love with a girl diagnosed with a motor neurone disease. When he got rejected, he seeks the passage to find a purpose in his life. Shahrukh Khan as Bauua Singh in the movie is hilarious.

He wins the heart with his wit and charm. The movie has been well written and directed by Anand L Rai. Despite being funny in many frames, Zero also makes you emotional at some places. The climax is epic and unforgettable. A must watch for Shahrukh fans.

Best Netflix Original Movies released in the month of May 2019

Best Netflix Originals Available in May 2019

Netflix Originals does not mean that the company produces and direct the movies under its production. I used to think the same earlier but then I noticed and found the case is not what it purports to be. So what do Netflix Originals mean?

Well, Netflix is just a streaming media provider which ties up with different production houses such as Lion Gates to take over the movie or series on its streaming provider. For example – You can see that Sacred Games TV show is an original production of Phantom Films however, Netflix shows this one with its original tag.
